In 2025 the trustees of the Lord Caradon Lectures Trust decided to offer an annual prize of £150 to the students of the University of Plymouth and Plymouth Marjon University for an original piece of work on the subject of international relations.

The challenge set in this initial year was to provide a 3 minute video addressing the following question – “How has social media changed international diplomacy?” – the prize going to the clearest, most insightful and effectively communicated video. The contributions were judged by Dame Judith Macgregor, a former High Commissioner to South Africa and trustee of the lecture trust.

Oscar, Caradon Prize Winner 2025

"How has social media changed international diplomacy?"

“If we accept every broadcast as truth, we trade our judgment for convenience.”

The 2025 prize was won by Oscar Stevens, a University of Plymouth student from the School of Art, Design and Architecture, and presented to him by Dame Judith on 20th November. Dame Judith commented that Oscar’s clip made the best impact in terms of visual/ image/ content/sound and music. In essence it presented the issue in a manner that followers of social media could best understand and relate to, and it made the salient points.
